Van den Goorbergh just misses out on points in the final Grand Prix of 2025 in Valencia
Zonta van den Goorbergh crossed the finish line in sixteenth place on Sunday afternoon in the Moto2 race at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia. In the 22nd and final race of the year, the Dutch rider fell just a few tenths short of scoring World Championship points.
The weekend started off difficult for RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP after Ayumu Sasaki broke his ankle on Friday morning, and because Zonta van den Goorbergh narrowly missed out on securing a place in Q2. Starting from 21st on the grid, the Dutchman made a good launch and moved up to 17th position.
By the sixth lap, Van den Goorbergh had climbed as high as 14th, but as the race progressed he began to lose ground. In the end, the 19-year-old rider missed out on fifteenth place by just a tenth of a second, finishing sixteenth and scoring no points. With a total of 19 points, Van den Goorbergh concludes the Moto2 World Championship in 25th place.
Teammate Ayumu Sasaki finished his first season with RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP in 23rd place in the final standings.
Zonta van den Goorbergh (P16 / +22,099):
“In qualifying yesterday we made some improvements, and that was also the case today in the race. I had a good start and was able to make up some positions right away, which allowed me to latch onto the group ahead of me. It’s a shame we ultimately missed out on points by just a tenth, but I gave it everything today. It’s been a long and tough season, so first we’re going to take some rest before shifting our focus fully to the future again. I’m looking forward to what that future will bring.”
