RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP revved up for season restart at remarkable Red Bull Ring

This coming weekend marks the thirteenth round of the FIM Moto2 World Championship, taking place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. After a three-week summer break, the second half of the season gets underway with no fewer than ten Grand Prix weekends in just fourteen weeks.

The Red Bull Ring has become a permanent fixture on the MotoGP calendar. After hosting races in the 1990s, the Austrian circuit has been featured continuously since 2016, making this the tenth consecutive year a Grand Prix has been held there. The spectacular setting in the Styrian mountains makes it a favourite among teams and riders alike.

The first half of the season ended on a disappointing note at the Automotodrom Brno in the Czech Republic, where both Zonta van den Goorbergh and Ayumu Sasaki failed to score points in the race. However, the RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team remained in Brno for an additional day to take part in the official test, where several positive findings were made. The team is highly motivated to build on those results this weekend and fight for strong finishes once again.

  • The race weekend at the Red Bull Ring begins with the first free practice on Friday morning, after which the official practice will be held at 14:05 in the afternoon. This session determines which fourteen riders may go directly through to Q2.
  • After a second free practice on Saturday morning, qualifying will begin at 13:40 in the afternoon, in which the starting grid for the race is determined.
  • The race over 23 laps will start on Sunday afternoon at 12:15.

Zonta van den Goorbergh:
“We had a good summer break. I’ve been able to train a lot recently to be as well-prepared as possible for the race weekends that are now coming at us in quick succession. I’m looking forward to getting underway again this weekend in Austria.”

Ayumu Sasaki:
“I am very excited to start the second part of the season. This summer I have been working on my weaknesses, as I want to be the best version of myself in these coming races. I am looking forward to get started again, and hopefully we can achieve good results.”

Jarno Janssen – RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP Team Manager:
“I think the summer break came at the right time for everyone, after a very busy period. It was disappointing to return home without points, but fortunately we were able to make good use of the test day in Brno on Monday. It’s great to start the second half of the season with fresh energy, which will again be a very busy period until mid-November. With many races close together, it’s important that we remain consistent and make as few mistakes as possible. I’m looking ahead to the coming weeks with great confidence.”
