RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP ready to start the 2025 Moto2 Season with new livery

The RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team has unveiled the new livery that Zonta van den Goorbergh and Ayumu Sasaki will race with in the 2025 FIM Moto2 World Championship. The new season kicks off this weekend at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand, followed by no fewer than 21 Grand Prix weekends in 2025.

Despite being only 19 years old, Zonta van den Goorbergh is set to begin his fourth season in the Moto2 class in 2025. Since joining RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP in 2022, the Dutch rider has made significant progress over the past seasons. In 2024, he secured two front-row starts and achieved his first top-five finish. The goal for the upcoming season is to consistently finish inside the top ten, and the recently completed winter tests have shown that this is certainly within reach.

For the first time in his Grand Prix career, Van den Goorbergh will have a new teammate in the RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP pit box. The 24-year-old Ayumu Sasaki is entering his second Moto2 season after finishing as the Moto3 vice world champion in 2023. Sasaki showed clear progress at the end of last season but was forced to miss the final two Grand Prix weekends due to injury. In 2025, the Japanese rider aims to make significant strides and establish himself as a consistent top-fifteen contender.

This weekend, the Chang International Circuit in Buriram will host the season opener. Forecasts indicate that the riders and team will face extremely challenging conditions, with temperatures expected to reach around 40°C.

Zonta van den Goorbergh:
“After a long yet at the same time short winter break, the first Grand Prix of 2025 is already upon us. Since we usually start the season at a different circuit, it feels a bit strange to be in Thailand now. After several good test days, we have travelled to Thailand with confidence, although it will be incredibly hot this weekend, with temperatures reaching around 40°C. This will certainly be a tough challenge, but we have trained hard this winter to handle it as best as possible. I am curious to see what this first Grand Prix weekend of 2025 will bring us. I really like the new livery, and everything looks great. Hopefully, we can ensure that the bike gets plenty of screen time.”

Ayumu Sasaki:
“I’m very excited to finally start the 2025 season. We’ve been working a lot this winter, and during the tests I already felt great with my new team. I am very motivated and I cannot wait to start the new season. We know where we want to be but we need to take things step by step, and focus on ourselves. I’m looking forward to have a great season together. The new bike looks fantastic so hopefully it’ll bring us some extra speed.”

Jarno Janssen – RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team manager:
“This weekend, it’s finally happening again. It feels almost unreal to be at the start of a new season when it seems like we just finished in Barcelona. It has been a busy winter for us with a lot of work put in, especially regarding the preparations of our material to ensure we start as strong as possible. We can look back on five positive test days in Portimão and Jerez, where both riders performed well. That gives us confidence going into the first race, knowing that we are competitive and everything is in order. Nevertheless, a race weekend is always unpredictable, and the first round of the season is always exciting. We’re heading to Thailand at a different time than usual, and it’s going to be extremely hot this weekend. That presents a new challenge, but we are approaching it with confidence. We are excited and looking forward to racing in our new colors for the first time.”

The race weekend at the Chang International Circuit will begin with the first free practice on Friday morning, followed by the official practice session in the afternoon which will determine the 14 riders who advance directly to Q2. After a second free practice on Saturday morning, qualifying will begin at 13:45h local time (07:45 Central European time). The 22-lap race will take place on Sunday at 13:15h local time (07:15 CET).
