RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP ready for action in Australia at iconic Phillip Island

The eighteenth Grand Prix of 2025 will take place this weekend at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia. It marks the second set of overseas races before the MotoGP paddock returns to Europe for the final two rounds of the season. After scoring points in Indonesia, Ayumu Sasaki and Zonta van den Goorbergh aim to carry that same form into the spectacular Australian circuit.

The 4.45-kilometre Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, located in southern Australia, is unlike any other track on the GP calendar. Its position along the Bass Strait, combined with the surrounding nature and challenging layout, offers a unique experience for both riders and teams. The track is characterised by its long left-hand corners, and with a 900-meter straight, it also allows for very high top speeds.

In Indonesia, both Ayumu Sasaki and Zonta van den Goorbergh went straight through to Q2 and managed to score points in the race — a result that will once again serve as the goal for this weekend in Australia. As always, the weather at Phillip Island is notoriously unpredictable at this time of year, which will undoubtedly play a key role once again.

Zonta van den Goorbergh:
“It was nice to have a weekend off in this busy period. Phillip Island is a very different circuit compared to the ones we’ve had in the past few weeks. As always, we’ll have to wait and see what kind of weather we get — that will play a big part. We’ll see how things go.”

Ayumu Sasaki:
“Phillip Island is one of my favourite tracks and I am really excited to go there and ride. Hopefully the weather will be stable and we get to enjoy every lap. Let’s make sure we have another good weekend.”

  • The race weekend at Phillip Island begins with Free Practice 1 on Friday morning, followed by the official practice session at 14:05 local time (05:05 Central European time), which determines the fourteen riders who advance directly to Q2.
  • After a second free practice on Saturday morning, qualifying starts at 13:40 local time (04:40 CET) to decide the grid for Sunday’s race.
  • The 23-lap race will take place on Sunday at 12:15 local time (03:15 CET).
