RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP back in Europe for the final ‘double header’ of 2025
This weekend marks the 21st Grand Prix of the 2025 season at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal. After a long overseas trip, the MotoGP paddock returns to Europe for the final two Grand Prix weekends of the year.
The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is a modern circuit built in 2008. Thanks to its spectacular layout and dramatic elevation changes, it’s often referred to as “the rollercoaster,” offering riders a true challenge. Since its debut on the MotoGP calendar in 2020, this will be the seventh Grand Prix to be held at Portimão.
After an intense stretch of four Grand Prix weekends in five weeks across Asia and Oceania, RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP is back on European soil. For Ayumu Sasaki, it was a positive run with points finishes in three of the four rounds, including a season-best top ten in Australia. Zonta van den Goorbergh, however, faced a tougher time following his heavy crash in Japan, managing to score points only in Indonesia.
Back on familiar ground, the Dutch team — together with Sasaki and Van den Goorbergh — will be looking to measure themselves once again against the strongest riders in the Moto2 class and to end the season on a positive note.
Ayumu Sasaki:
“I am very excited to be back in Europe and have the last two races of this long 2025 season. I think we have been improving our speed in the second part of the season and I cannot wait to go back to Portimão where we had the first test of the year. I am looking forward to it and hopefully we can have a great weekend. Our target is to finish inside the points again and be optimally prepared for the final GP in Valencia.”Zonta van den Goorbergh:
“We’re back in Europe for the final two races of the year. It’s important that we finish the season in the best possible way to go into the winter with a good feeling. We tested at Portimão earlier this year, so everyone knows the circuit well, and we’ll see how things play out this weekend.”
- The race weekend at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve begins with the first free practice session on Friday morning, followed by the official practice at 14:05 local time (15:05 CET), which determines which fourteen riders will advance directly to Q2.
- After a second free practice session on Saturday morning, qualifying begins in the afternoon at 13:40 local time (14:40 CET), where the starting grid for the race will be decided.
- Note: The 21-lap race will start earlier than usual on Sunday at 11:15 local time (12:15 CET). Due to an adjusted schedule, the Moto2 class will race first.
