RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP aims to regain form at iconic Le Mans
This weekend marks the sixth round of the FIM Moto2 World Championship at the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans, France. After a challenging weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, it will be crucial for Zonta van den Goorbergh, Ayumu Sasaki, and the entire RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team to rediscover their form during the French Grand Prix.
The 4.19-kilometre-long Le Mans Bugatti Grand Prix circuit features nine right-hand corners and five left-hand corners. It has been a fixture on the Grand Prix calendar for years and holds the record for the highest number of spectators. The weather conditions can be changeable, often making the races unpredictable.
RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP left the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez empty-handed after a difficult race weekend. In a different setting and under different conditions, the team and riders will do everything they can this coming weekend in Le Mans to turn things around.
Zonta van den Goorbergh:
“We certainly didn’t have the easiest weekend in Jerez, and that started already on Friday because we had a lot of trouble finding the right feeling. This weekend – like every weekend – it will be important to get it right from the very first session so that we can head in the right direction from Friday onwards. Hopefully, we can then bring home the desired result on Sunday.”Ayumu Sasaki:
“I am very excited to start another race weekend in Le Mans. It is a track that I like, and it has been good for me in the past so that’s why I’m looking forward to go there again. The season is going very quickly as we’ve already had five races, but we’re improving step by step. Our progress is going a bit slower than what I hoped for, but I’m very confident that we’re making steps and that we will get there. Hopefully we can show our progress on the results sheet as well, this weekend.”Jarno Janssen – RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP Team Manager:
“This weekend Le Mans is on the calendar, one of the iconic circuits that has been part of the Grand Prix calendar for many years. It’s still a real ‘old-school’ circuit with fast corners, but also sections where heavy braking is required and where it’s a bit more ‘stop-and-go’. There’s always a special atmosphere there with lots of fans, which makes it one of the standout events on the calendar. The weekend in Jerez was far from successful for us, so we’ll have to fight hard to get back on track this weekend. It’s important to be on the pace right from Friday morning.”
The race weekend at the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans kicks off with the first free practice session on Friday morning, followed by the official practice session at 14:05 in the afternoon, which will determine the fourteen riders who go directly to Q2. After a second free practice on Saturday morning, qualifying begins at 13:45 in the afternoon, deciding the starting grid for the race. The 22-lap race will start at 12:15 on Sunday afternoon.
